Ethics - Professionalism and Governance

Question: Discuss about theEthics, Professionalism and Governance. Answer: Introduction In this article, we will highlight the ethical issues related to ACS or Australian Computer Society. Like other professionals, CIT professionals of Australia also have specific code of conduct which is endorsing the concept of professionalism, governance and compliance of ethics. The codes are specified in the ACS directives specifying the professional of IT enrolled with ACS have to ensure compliance of these codes for better level of deliverance with the provision of security for the stakeholders. Case Study 1 Jennifer, the IT consultant, had been assigned the job of doing the frame work of database management of a middle-sized company. The management of the company was not agreeing with the proposal of Jennifer of imposing a high level strict security for this purpose as proposed by Jennifer. Now it is on the part of Jennifer to decide if she would accept the assignment from the viewpoint of code of ethics as per ACS guideline of code of conduct. Compliance of Code of Ethics as per ACS The code of ethics of ACS is comprised of five elements:- Priority of public interest Ensuring enhancement of quality of life Honesty Competence Professional development Professionalism(Acs, 2014). The above case study showed the confusion of accepting the assignment by Jennifer in conformation of code of ethics. We will discuss three such consequences which may determine the issue. Primacy of Public Interest As the issue is related to structure of database with lower level of security imposition, this may hamper the public interest due to leakage of data to the hackers or third parties hampering the interests of the stakeholders(Csse, 2012). Honesty This case study may raise integrity of Jennifer so far compromising attitude if she accepts the assignment. Competence The need of this code is to ensure competent and diligent effort by the service provider to the stakeholders. If Jennifer accepts this work by agreeing lower level security imposition, this will lead to deliverance with lesser competence and diligence(Ferguson, 2005). Professional Conduct Refer to this case study, ethics of professional conduct as per ACS is guiding with directive of following five clauses:- Not practicing the conduct which may go against the good value of IT profession with compromising attitude which detects the term of acceptance of this assignment by Jennifer. To ensure the conformity of ACS code so far corporate action of the Society is concerned by the professional can prevent Jennifer to compromise on the issues of lower level of security imposition in the database management. Not practicing any such action to influence for taking any action with the proposition of breach of code of ACS can prevent Jennifer of this assignment. With the standing of calm, goal-based informative and knowledgeable as a professional towards her work to ensure enthusiasm and engagement to the assignment may not be present if Jennifer agreed to the proposal of the management of the company to impose low-level security. The motive of ACS is to promote this profession with transparent communication to other professionals with students and the public will not be there if Jennifer compromises her stance related to the proposal of management(Dileepk, 2008). The Legislation So far the legislation related to ACS code of ethics compliance, there is found clear relevance to the legislation related to professional standards. Non compliance of these codes may lead to the penal actions initiated by the Society initiated with disciplinary action by ACS. References: Acs, 2014. ACS Code of Professional Conduct.
